Prospective POSTDOCTORAL fellows

The Goal:

The primary mission of the Rusan Lab is to assist you in launching your independent career. We offer a fully funded position for up to 5 years, allowing you to focus entirely on developing a future research program.

 Comprehensive Career Development:

Extensive training and career guidance through the NHLBI Office of Education and the NIH OITE:

    • Research support: Extremely generous laboratory operating budgets.
    • Travel:  Funding will be provided to attend two conferences per year
    • Mentoring opportunities: Opportunities to mentor postbaccs and summer interns to build your teaching/mentoring portfolio
    • Grant writing support: Targeted support for external and internal fellowships, including the dedicated K22 Career Transition Award for Intramural Fellows.
    • Job market preparation: Intensive training for the tenure-track market. Includes feedback on application packages, job talks, and chalk talks from senior NHLBI members with extensive track records of helping former fellows initiate independent labs.
    • Computational resources: Government-furnished desktops, laptops and tablets will be provided. All Fellows have access to Biowulf, one of the largest biomedical research-focused supercomputing systems in the world.

Research Focus:

While projects are tailored to the fellow’s interests, our lab broadly explores:

  • Cytoskeleton & Centrosome Biology
  • Mitosis & Spermatogenesis
  • Human Disease Modeling & Therapeutic Screening (with the Undiagnosed Disease Program)

 Model Systems: primarily Drosophila (genetics background not required), with expanding work in human disease models.
